Professional and Broadcast Wide Angle Lens AdaptorsThe Red Eye is a "NON-ZOOM THROUGH" professional wide angle lens adapter, designed to work with a broad range of DV and Broadcast lenses. It threads onto the front of a camera lens that is equipped with an auto focus, macro or back focus adjustment. With this adapter, the angle of view on most camera lenses will be INCREASED BY 30% with the .7x and by 50% with the .5x.
The Red Eye is about the size of a filter and weighs less than 100 grams. The bulk and weight have been eliminated by using a durable and compact, high index, high clarity optical material which substantially reduces the size and weight of the lens.
All Red Eye wide angle lens adapters feature a multi layer anti-reflective coating to increase light transmission to near 100% for optimum image clarity, contrast and sharpness. In addition, hard coatings offer an extra degree of scratch resistance and improve water repellence. The lens housing is anodized aluminium and uses standard 58mm, 72mm or 82mm thread mounts. Each lens comes with its own hand-crafted padded leather pouch with belt fitting.
One Major advantage of the Red Eye is that it can be used with your existing lens hoods and matte boxes. In most cases, simply screw the Red Eye wide angle lens adapter on your lens and attach the lens shade. Some lens shades require that the Red Eye be mounted with the shade attached.
Will it work with my DV camera? Yes... but not all DV cameras can focus in at very close range giving them macro focus ability. To make these cameras work with the Red Eye , the operator may need to use the auto focus feature if there is difficulty focusing using the focus ring. In short, if your DV camera is equipped with a macro feature, then the Red Eye should work with your DV camera.
Can I zoom with the Red Eye ? It Depends.... If a Red Eye is used on a broadcast television camera lens, the answer is no. The Red Eye was designed as a non-zoom through wide angle adapter. Set the zoom lens to its widest focal length, adjust focus ring to infinity and focus using the macro adjustment. But ...... pro-consumer DV cameras are the exception. In most cases, when the camera is in auto focus mode the cameraman will actually be able to zoom with the Red Eye . This is a function of the camera more than the Red Eye . None the less, you will be able to cover roughly ½ the zoom range using the DV cameras auto focus feature.
